I painted this for the Self-Portrait (September) Issue of Poets & Artists. I'm honored to be in the same publication as so many great poets & portrait artists.

This is my contribution to Karin Jurick's portrait challenge going on over at Different Strokes from Different Folks. Karin has matched up 65 pairs of artists who are painting each other's portraits from photos. Not only do you not know who you are painting, but there's the fun possibility of swapping portraits at the end of the challenge.
So to my lovely anonymous model, I can only say thanks for the chance to paint you, thanks for rendering me, and this portrait is yours for a swap.
[12/31/08: So now I know that the subject of my painting is the children's book illustrator, Anni Matsick. You can check out her work at www.annimatsick.com. As all 130 portraits are posted through Jan. 7, 2009, you can check them out by clicking here.
The New York Times invited readers this week to submit portraits of past New York governors as part of a story they ran on Gov. Mario Cuomo's reluctance to have his official state portrait done. I'm a big fan of Mario and felt, as a fellow St. John's Law alum, that I should give it a whirl. So here's my portrait of my favorite New York governor, as published in the Times City Room blog and in the Times the following day.
