This is a painting I've donated to an art auction/competition being held by our local public television station, WSKG. 

The theme of the competition was Beyond the Boundaries.  I painted this from 5 cell phone photos I took while visiting New York City a few weeks ago.  This is the corner of Church and Vesey Streets in Manhattan.  It used to be just an ordinary corner with a view of the most extraordinary building, the World Trade Center.  Now, it is a street corner that changed the course of the world.

Here's a recent New York Times article on the progression of construction at the World Trade Center site.  It has a link to an interesting video detailing the construction.

This painting was part of a 70-piece art exhibition at the following locations:

• March 20-22: Community School of Music and Art, Ithaca, NY
• March 27-29: Exhibit A, Corning, NY
• April 3-5: Cooperstown Art Association, Cooperstown, NY
• April 13-16: WSKG Studios, Vestal, NY, and
• on April 18th was auctioned off live during WSKG's on-air art auction, which was tons of fun to watch!  Thanks to all who bid on this painting and congratulations to the successful bidder!

The New York Times invited readers this week to submit portraits of past New York governors as part of a story they ran on Gov. Mario Cuomo's reluctance to have his official state portrait done.  I'm a big fan of Mario and felt, as a fellow St. John's Law alum, that I should give it a whirl.  So here's my portrait of my favorite New York governor, as published in the Times City Room blog and in the Times the following day.
